A duet featuring Mick Jagger and Carly Simon has been uncovered after more than 45 years in obscurity.
The unreleased song was recorded circa 1972. It was recently rediscovered on a tape owned by Rolling Stones collector Matt Lee.
The ballad, believed to be titled "Fragile," was the product of Simon and Jagger sitting together around a piano during a session one day.
Simon has previously recalled the duet in interviews.
"We had this little back and forth at the piano for about an hour," she told Rolling Stone in a 2016 interview before singing a line from memory.
Jagger apparently takes the lead on the song while Simon uses her voice to provide additional harmony. The supposed timetable of the "Fragile" recording makes sense with other stories about the two singers collaborating.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jagger reportedly sang backup on Simon's biggest hit, "You're So Vain," which was a hit in 1972.
Rumors persisted for years that "You're So Vain" was about Jagger, but Simon has always refuted those assertions.
The collector Lee would not tell reporters from where he acquired the tape. He's reportedly preserved it digitally; he even sent a copy along to Simon for posterity.
It's not clear if either Jagger or Simon will release the song to the public now that a version of it has surfaced.
