David Bowie Installation Takes Over Manhattan Subway Station

An installation paying tribute to one of rock's most iconic figures is taking over the Broadway-Lafayette subway station in New York City.

As of Wednesday morning, the Manhattan subway stop was covered in images of David Bowie paired with something about New York that the Starman at one time or another expressed an affection for.

The exhibit also features fan-made works of Bowie-themed art and reproductions of images that are part of the Brooklyn Museum's "David Bowie Is" exhibit. Subway riders can also get limited-edition Bowie MetroCards at the Broadway-Lafayette station.

So far the Bowie installation has been a big hit on social media on its first day, with many commuters lingering in the subway snapping photos of the subway walls and stairs bearing Bowie's likeness...or their colorful new MetroCards.

The Bowie installation at Broadway-Lafayette is a collaboration between the Brooklyn Museum and Spotify.

See more photos of the station below and go check it out for yourself if you're in the area this week.

Since Bowie's death in 2016, tributes to the innovative musician and visual artist have popped up all over the world. Recently, one English town with decades-long ties to Bowie erected a statue of the singer in its town center after a crowdfunding effort by Bowie's fans which raised over £100,000.
