Duff McKagan is getting special academic recognition.  The former Guns N' Roses bassist has been named Seattle Central Community College's 2013 Distinguished Alumni of the Year.  The award was presented earlier this month at the school's graduation ceremony.  Duff couldn't accept the honor in person, but submitted a video that the school has posted.  In the clip the 49-year-old rocker says the things he learned at Seattle Central have served him well.

McKagan started at Seattle Central when he was 30.  He credits the school for teaching him "how to study again," and for helping him "develop discipline."  And Duff has continued to use his business education to help others.  Two years ago he launched Meridian Rock, a company that provides money management assistance to musicians.
